Harrods Expanding Wine Department

It is not very often that you can legitimately claim to be taking the retail experience, ‘To a new level,’ but when the claimant is the world famous Harrods department store, you should pay attention.  Harrods wine and spirits department is expanding into a new, 7,000 square foot retail space that will offer more than 3,000 different wines and spirits.

What makes this retailing effort different is its emphasis on education.  Harrods will present sampling events and master classes in their new Champagne and spirits rooms.  Here, a new wine vault has been constructed that will greatly increase their eclectic selection of products. The new expansion is full of cutting-edge technology.  For example, an ‘Aroma Zone’, has been created using interactive technology in joint partnership with famous wine accessories company Le Nez du Vin.  Within the ‘Aroma Zone’, participants will be able to use the new technology to better understand and pinpoint the many subtle different flavors that make superior wines such a joy to taste.

In addition, there will be a tasting room that will host tasting events and bring in celebrity cooks for wine and food pairing evenings.  Customers will have the option to enjoy a less formal experience at the tasting bar, but the very finest wines will be held within the wine vault.  This glass-walled, climate controlled vault will house a rotating selection of old and rare vintages as well as some of the most sought after names.  Still another wing of the expansion will be called the ‘Eclectic Selection’, and will feature wines from emerging countries like Slovenia and Japan.

Harrods head wine buyer Alistair Viner says, “We believe that we have created the ultimate destination for customers of all tastes and levels to experience the world of wine and spirits.”  When Harrods decides to make a splash, you know it will be done with panache and an attention to detail that will satisfy even the most discriminating of tastes.
